Competition Updates

It's been another great week of golf at the Downs - superb conditions on course have lead to some incredible golf - with Club Champion Shaun Harrison shooting a 2 under Gross in the gents medal, seniors pairing Steve Dennis and Terry Marsh shooting a +8 in the V Par event, The Ladies Captain shooting a near perfect 73 and of course the Gents v Ladies a great event for the battle of the sexes - and in between all that Downs hosted the prestigious Ladies Jerdein Trophy

Seniors four ball better Ball Against Par: This competition was played on Wednesday 30th July in superb weather and the course was in excellent condition. A large number of seniors took part playing in pairs. One of the closest four balls was between the Seniors Captain Chris Broughton and Mike Smith against the Vice Captain Steve Dennis who was partnered by Terry Marsh. Throughout the 18 holes there was never more than on hole between the two teams. It went right to the 18th Green when on this occasion the Vice’s Team one the day on plus 8 and won by one hole! Second was in fact Tony Warren and Chris Palmer on count back with plus 7, and third again on count back was Brian Gatton and Malcolm Little on plus 7.

The Ladies against the Gents: On Saturday 2nd August the Ladies took on the Gentlemen. It was a real fun day and it resulted with a win for the men by 7 matches to 3.

The Lois Hall Trophy: The Ladies section played the Lois Hall Trophy in yet again, glorious sunshine on Tuesday, Nicky Reeves our Lady’s Captain took the honour with a net 73, and second place went to Teresa Shing on net 77 on count back from Caroline Abbott also on 77. The ladies enjoyed a superb supper afterward in the club house.

The Gents August Medal: On Sunday 3rd August, on yet another beautiful day, a large field of gents played the August monthly medal at Eastbourne Downs. It was a day of excellent play resulting in some brilliant scores – The result was;-

  • 1st Shaun Harrison 68 gross – net 66   
  • 2nd Nick Taylor 78 gross – net 70
  • 3rd Seb Dell  74 gross – net 70

Division 2                   

  • 1st Louie Hyfield  81 gross – net 69
  •  2nd Simon Burke 84 gross – net 71
  • 3rd Alan Bennett 87 gross – net 73

Division 3                  

  • 1st Mick Arnott 90 gross – net 68
  • 2nd Peter O’Neil 88 gross – net 69
