Downs Competition Updates

Catch up with this weeks competition news. Updates from actoss the Club with the Airbourne event, Seniors stableford and the Ladies August medal.

A large field of Seniors gathered for a stableford competition in good conditions which were reflected in high scores. Early starter Roger Hobbs set a challenging target with an excellent 43 points which none of the other competitors could match and ran out a clear winner. The nearest challengers were 4 points adrift on 39 points with countback being required to separate 2nd placed David Hunter from John Baldwin in 3rd.

The Ladies had less favourable conditions for their August Medal having to contend with a blustery wind. Vice- Captain, Teresa Archer triumphed on 82 with Caroline Abbott (84) 2nd ahead of Val McManus (84) on countback.

Saturday (16th) saw the return of the ever popular Airbourne competition, coincinding with the Eastbourne Airbourne airshow. Competitors were treated to their own personal display by the Red Arrows as teams took part in the texas scramble. With a good turn out honours went to:

  • Nearest the pin: Ian Pagan
  • 1st - Gross 66 net 60: Cyril Thomas, Jenny Thomas, Connor Porterhouse, Jake Nash
  • 2nd - Gross 73 net 63.7: Phil Wilkinson, Norman Griffin, Steve Martin, Martin Simes
  • 3rd - Gross 74 net 66.5: Rob Claydon, Stuart Hoile, Dan Geal, Terry Marsh
  • 4th - Gross 74 net 66.7: Tony Warren, Gill Warren, Jilly Pagan, Ian Pagan

An excellent score for the winning team.
