Downs Competition Updates

Eastbourne Downs golfers enjoyed great conditions and turned out in large numbers for competitions preceding the bank holiday wash out.

First up were the Seniors to contest their Centenary Shield Stableford. In a closely fought encounter Paul Flint on 39 points edged out Brian Powell (38) to lift the trophy. John Kavanagh (35) took 3rd place ahead of 6 players on 34 points.

Next were the men in the Downs Trophy / September Medal. Ashley Richardson with an excellent 67 took the honours in Division 1 just ahead of Ian Moon on 68 with Scott Simpson 3rd on 70. Guy Grimley romped home in Division 2 with a magnificent 66. Four shots back in 2nd place was Neil Knight (70) while Stefan Ashford secured 3rd on countback from Mark Cresswell, Simon Burke & Louie Highfield; all having returned 71. The top three places in Division 3 went to David Hamper (70), Graham Hatfield (72) & Lyndon Stonard (73).

With his excellent score of a net 66 Guy claimed the Downs Trophy - Ashley was one of the early players out and waited all day for the result - only to see Guy coming in as the last player out pip him by one shot. Great scoring from the leaders this week.

Last, but not least, were the ladies competing for the Tolley Putter. In a tight duel Gill Olivier (73) just won out on countback from Val McManus (73), continuing her recent good form. Nicky Reeves (75) was in 3rd place.
