Downs Competition Updates

Eastbourne Downs golfers have enjoyed another week of good conditions for their competition, contesting the reurrected Beachy Head Trophy, Seniors pairs and the Ladies 51 Cup

The men contested the Beachy Head Foursomes. Always a difficult format and a good test of friendship! Rod Pullen & John Lynch come out on top with a very good 68.5 followed by Ian Pagan & John Boniface on 70.5 with Dave Whatley & the in form Ashley Richardson on 73 coming in third.

The Seniors also played a pairs competition, a Four Ball Better Ball Stableford, with Chris Palmer & Michael Clarke topping the leaderboard with an excellent 42 points. Roy Grainger & Malcolm Little took 2nd place on countback from John Baldwin & Derek Springall both pairs having returned 39 points.

The ladies played for the 51 Cup, a stableford, in rather blustery conditions. Val McManus scored 31 points to lift the cup just ahead of Nicky Reeves on 30.  They enjoyed much more favourable conditions on Sunday when contesting the Ann Matthews and Ann Fuller Rose Bowls, a par competition. Winner of the Silver Division and the Matthews Bowl was Jenny Thomas on -1 who just edged out Sarah Harlowe who came in on -2. The Bronze Division was also closely fought with Liz Street on -3 lifting the Fuller Bowl ahead of Chris Langley on -4.
