Gents too strong for Seniors

In testing weather conditions the Eastbourne Downs Gents team proved too strong for the Seniors team -winning 8.5- 3.5. Despite the heavy rain both teams played some excellent golf with 25 birdies recorded in the 12 matches. Club Vice-Captain, Roger Geering, who led the Gents in the absence of the injured Phil Hanson, was the leading player with 4 birdies.

Both teams were glad to reach the sanctuary of the club house and the excellent lunch provided by Paula and her team.

In thanking both teams for turning out in the conditions Seniors Captain, David Bell, pointed out that “if the Seniors team counted matches won by Seniors Section Members representing the Gents then the result worked out as 7 – 5 to the Seniors”.

Harrison Pips Dell

In the same weather conditions Shaun Harrison and Seb Dell fought out a close and high quality encounter in the Ken Hookway Matchplay final. The match went all the way to the 18th hole before Harrison came out on top by the narrowest of margins.

Seniors Poor Start in Winter League

The Seniors Winter League Team got off to a poor start, losing their first match at home to Hollingbury 2 - 3. In benign conditions the golf was of a high standard and all five matches were extremely close with the three matches lost all going to the final green.

Dennis Top in Seniors Stableford

Richard Dennis scored an excellent 42 points in the Seniors Stableford competition despite being at the end of the field and getting the worst of the weather. He finished 4 points ahead of David Hunter with Tony White coming third with 37 points.
