Steve Twine Lifts Members Cup

Eastbourne Downs Golf Club has had another busy week’s golf in beautiful weather. On Sunday 76 men turned out for the ever popular Members Cup Competition v Par. Whilst the weather was good and the course in excellent condition a northerly breeze, which freshened as the morning went on, presented a challenge. Only 5 players managed to record a plus score four of whom were among the early starters including the winner, Steve Twine, who was in the first group out and returned a +4 which remained unchallenged all day. Steve Hibbert with +2 took second place on countback from Andrew Dumville (+2) third and Simon Burke (+2) fourth with Kieran Reidy (+1) fifth.

Earlier in the week there were Ladies & Mixed competitions and the Seniors held their invitation event a 4BBB stableford. Chris Langley shot a net 70 to win the Ladies Killick Cup ahead of Theresa Archer (74) with Judy Milne (77) in third place. Husband and wife team, Ian & Jilly Pagan on 39 points prevailed in the Jim Hewitt Mixed Trophy with Paul Sorrell & Sarah Harlowe (37) taking second spot and Phil Hanson & Jenny Thomas (36) third.

The Seniors invitation event was played in ideal conditions which were reflected in good scores being returned by most pairs. Chris Palmer and his guest, Hugh Ball (Willingdon GC), took first place with 42 points whilst Seniors Captain, Chris Broughton, partnered Philip Hargreaves (Wildernesse GC) to 41 points and second place on countback from Terry Marsh & Graham Day (Dulwich GC) also on 41points. Following the golf everyone enjoyed a superb buffet lunch presented by Paula Collins and her team.
